Some claim that the plague sweeping through Stormwind may be the result of a cursed artifact that has recently come into the city. According to these theories, the artifact holds immense power, but also carries with it a terrible curse that causes those who come into contact with it to fall ill (so your standard artifact). Whether or not this theory holds any truth remains to be seen. This one may fit with the fact at least one ring has been found, as well as the coins themselves - but since all this has been examined by experts then I don't see this one being true either.
Others say that the plague in Stormwind may be the result of the machinations of an ancient god, long thought to be dead or dormant. According to these rumours, the god has awoken and is seeking to punish the city for some unknown transgression. Whether or not this theory has any basis in reality is unclear, but it has certainly added to the sense of unease and fear that has gripped the city. Personally, I question it, we have sort of run out of Old ancient gods who can suddenly awaken - but then again, it has happened before. It just doesn’t have the feel of ancient gods to it. It isn't grand enough.
Rumour #7 - The Scientist
The last rumour about the plague and the origin is that it may be the result of the reckless experimentation of a rogue scientist. These rumours suggest that the scientist, driven by a desire for power or fame (isn't it always?), may have created the plague as a means of advancing their own goals (surprise!). This one could be true. The whole thing certainly has a madness factor to it, and with the war between the Horde and the Alliance over, some of those Apothecaries need a new mission in life after all.
One thing is for sure - while the creativeness of people in Stormwind does exist, then some of these really are a bit predictable and tame.
Hopefully the authorities can end this thing for real before I have to make another article about silly gossip.
